Post Rush/Shift Change
Shift change can be a busy time. Be sure to start planning for it a few hours before. Plan to have your best people in place to help the transition go smoothly. Stock all stations at the beginning of the change to cover the transition time. Shift changes are when the cash register is switched over, recounted and the profits placed into the safe for later deposit.
Later in this Chapter, in Lesson 6, you will learn about counting down the cash drawers, resetting the tills, and what to do with the money that you take in during the first shift of the day.
Shift Change Responsibilities
The post rush period is when a shift change best happens. The manager’s attention to on-the-floor activity is most important during the shift change. Each team member is tasked with getting the store back in order. Expectations and standards need to be set and communicated to each team member. Make sure that all managers and team members are fully aware of their surroundings and tasks that need to be accomplished during this time.Distracted managers can wind up costing Raw Juce the guests’ goodwill and business if done incorrectly. It is important that the operations continue to run smoothly as the shift change occurs.
The Post Rush period is the ideal time to work on cleaning and straightening up the store. This includes, but isn’t limited to: cleaning the bathrooms, front of house, reach in coolers and front windows. Remember the cleaner the store is, the better the guests’ experience. The transition will go more smoothly if the manager is on the floor at all times during this period.
Use this shift change checklist to delegate all the tasks to be completed, and review it to be sure that all of the tasks are addressed.
