Cash Handling Policies
The use of any register is restricted only to approved cashiers that have signed the cash handling policy and checklist.
- The General Manager or Assistant Manager can assign a Team Member to a register only after the initial till has been counted.
Cash drops, change orders, or bank deposits are to be performed by the General Manager or Assistant Manager only.
- The time to take care of the bank run is between 1p-3p. You’ll have the most amount of staff on hand to allow you to be away from the store without putting the guest’s experience in jeopardy.
- All payouts need to be authorized by a Manager.
- All payouts must be attached to a receipt for the purchase and must be made for the exact amount on the receipt. Any payout not accompanied by a receipt will be the responsibility of the Manager and will not be approved.
- All payouts and receipts must contain only items authorized for store use. Personal items cannot be on the same receipt.
- One of the Managers on Duty will perform this, as soon as the Post Rush Checklist by the FOH Team Members has begun
- As early as 1p, the shift change countdown can begin.
- Remove the cash drawer from either POS, and flip over iPad to alert your team that it is out of commission, and no cash can be brought in until it’s finished being counted down
- Count down the drawer to exactly $200.00 in the hallway, leaving all coins, and small bills in drawer.
- Pool remaining money into Mid-Day Countdown bank envelope and put bank envelope back into safe.
- Cash drawer is returned to POS
- Flip iPad back over, and reset the till on the iPad to $200.00
- Once the first POS is set, repeat the same process for the second POS to complete the Shift Change Countdown.
- Reset Tills on both iPads
End of Day Drawer Countdown
Count Down the Drawers
- Upon closing, and ensuring all orders are closed out, count down both drawers.
- Repeat the same steps as the mid-day countdown:
- Leave $200.00 in each drawer
- Take remaining money left over and put into Mid Day Countdown bank envelope
- Reset the till on each iPad to $200.00
End of Day Cash Deposit
- Run a Daily Sales report from the Home iPad (POS1)
- Bottom line on printout will be cash taken in and expected in house for deposit
- Payouts are not included in this number, and will have to be subtracted out manually. This number is on Daily Sales Report as well.
- Take out the Daily Deposit bank envelope from safe
- Get a grand total in the Mid Day Countdown bank folder from the 4 drawer counts for actual deposit amount.
- Place cash and coin (no more than $0.99 in coin… if more, swap out for a $1 bill from POS1) into cash deposit envelope (in Daily Deposit bank envelope).
- Write the following on the cash deposit envelope: Day, Date, and Total $. Seal this deposit envelope, and place into Daily Deposit bank envelope.
- Fill out a bank deposit slip (in Daily Deposit bank envelope) for the day’s deposit.
- Ensure the date is written on slip, along with the deposit $ amount in its 3 designated spaces.
- Place slip into Daily Deposit bank envelope, and place back into a neat and organized safe.
